"I want my work to have life and a
feeling of movement, to go beyond the simple materials that comprise its structure."
Dorothy Jackson Smith is an award-winning
artist from Broad Run, Virginia. Her works have sold throughout the United States and are
currently showing in Galleries on the east coast. She is a professional artist and
actress, as well as an avid horsewoman with four horses of her own.
          Dorothy's bronzes always capture the
personality and individuality of their subjects. Owners comment on both the beauty and
quality of detail, she is able to capture in her work. The modern steel sculptures have
often been referred to as "line drawings in air". It is the deceptive simplicity
of these pieces, which makes them so appealing. These modern works are often bought by
people with strong backgrounds in design or art and have been purchased by graphic
          artists, photographers and private collectors.
Dorothy's latest bronze was of Karen and
David O'Connor on Prince Panache and Giltedge. This sculpture gave her a chance to create
an interesting dynamic among four subjects. It was also a great privilege to have sculpted
these two of the country's top Olympic athletes on such impressive horses.
